Persistent difficulties in understanding spoken and written language (receptive language) or in verbalizing thoughts and feelings (expressive language) may indicate a language disorder.  

 

Since oral language difficulties and delays are often linked to struggles with reading and writing, early detection, evaluation, and subsequent evidence-based treatment are essential.

 

Language therapy services are delivered using an individualized cognitive-linguistic approach to address vulnerabilities in the following areas:

  • Executive functions

  • Expressive language

    • vocabulary development 

    • word retrieval 

    • grammar and sentence structure (syntax) 

    • narrative and discourse organization 

  • Figurative language 

  • Inferential thinking

  • Listening and reading comprehension 

  • Phonological processing 

  • Social communication and perspective-taking​

  • Verbal reasoning ​

Speech
Therapy

Speech sound disorders occur when an individual has difficulty producing speech sounds and/or combining them to form intelligible words. Therapy is conducted with a bottom-up approach. SL2 provides one-on-one speech therapy in the following areas:

  • Articulation Disorders

  • Apraxia

  • Disorders of Phonological Processes
